About the role

Are you passionate about creating safe and welcoming spaces where everyone can thrive? We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health and Safety Business Partner to take a lead role in shaping and driving a positive safety culture across Leeds University Union (LUU). This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you will act as the organisation’s subject matter expert on health and safety—partnering with teams at all levels to ensure compliance, influence behaviours, and embed best practice in everything we do. From large-scale events to day-to-day operations, you will play a critical role in identifying risks, driving improvements, and ensuring a safe, inclusive environment for our students, staff, and visitors.

You’ll have the autonomy to lead on policy development, deliver engaging training, and influence strategic decision-making, while working closely with university stakeholders and student groups. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident H&S professional who thrives in a dynamic, people-focused environment and wants to make a visible difference.

What you'll Lead & Deliver

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health & safety policies and procedures in line with UK legislation
  • Ensure compliance through audits, inspections, and risk assessments across facilities, events, and activities
  • Provide expert advice and practical support to managers, student groups, and colleagues
  • Deliver engaging training and promote health & safety awareness across the organisation
  • Investigate incidents and accidents, identify root causes, and drive preventative actions
  • Monitor performance, analyse trends, and report to internal committees and stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with University teams and external partners to ensure best practice
  • Support safe delivery of student activities, including societies and events
