About the role:
Are you an experienced Learning & Development professional passionate about fostering an inclusive, high-performing workplace culture? Leeds University Union (LUU) is looking for a Learning and Engagement Lead to shape and drive our integrated learning, development, engagement, and inclusion initiatives.
In this role, you will lead the end-to-end design and delivery of leadership programmes, overhaul our onboarding journey, manage learning platforms, and support our staff networks and inclusion strategy—all while building sustainable L&D capability across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Learning & Leadership Development: Design, facilitate, and evaluate impactful L&D programmes that build management and leadership capability across teams.
- Onboarding & Induction: Lead the redesign and centralisation of the organisation-wide induction programme to ensure a consistent, engaging onboarding experience.
- Systems & Digital Learning: Oversee Learning Management Systems (LMS), support LMS migration projects, create engaging digital content (e.g., Articulate), and use data analytics to measure impact.
- Inclusion & Staff Engagement: Partner with the Centre of Diversity to drive the inclusion action plan, provide strategic support to Staff Networks, and coordinate student staff/volunteer development.
- Compliance & Mandatory Training: Ensure organisation-wide completion and reporting for mandatory health, safety, wellbeing, and compliance training.
- Budget & Team Support: Manage the central L&D budget and funding requests, while collaborating closely with the People & Culture team on day-to-day HR operations.
What we’re looking for:
Essential:
- Qualifications: CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent L&D/HR qualification).
- Experience: Proven track record in end-to-end L&D design and delivery (management development, onboarding, compliance).
- HR Foundation: Solid generalist HR understanding across the employee lifecycle to support broader People & Culture operations.
- Digital & Systems: Hands-on experience managing LMS platforms and developing digital learning content using authoring tools.
- Inclusion Focus: Practical experience supporting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives and staff networks.
- Facilitation & Communication: Outstanding in-person and virtual presentation skills, alongside strong project management and stakeholder collaboration abilities.
Desirable:
- CIPD Level 7 or working towards it.
- Coaching, facilitation, or instructional design accreditation.
- Experience with LMS migration or HR system transitions.
- Experience within Higher Education, Students' Unions, or the third sector.
